Three arrested and brought before the courts following drug and cash seizure in Laois

Three people have been arrested, charged and appeared in court following a drug and cash seizure in Laois.

The incident happened yesterday when Gardai in Mountmellick conducted a routine vehicle stop.

Here, they discovered three men in a car were carrying a quantity of drugs and a sum of cash.

They were subsequently arrested and subsequent investigations led to the arrest and detention of people in connection with recent thefts from shops and deception in the area.

Following this, one man in his 20s was before the court yesterday and another two, aged in their 30s and 40s, were there today.

Gardai said: “On Thursday, January 25th, 2024, during proactive anti-crime patrols, Gardaí from Mountmellick Station conducted a routine vehicle stop, resulting in the recovery of a sum of cash and a quantity of drugs.

“The occupants of the car, three adult males were detained under Misuse of Drugs legislation and taken to Tullamore Garda Station.

“Subsequent investigations led to the arrest and detention of the individuals in connection with recent retail theft and deception incidents in the region.

“Following their arrests and detentions, one male in his 20s was charged and brought before the District Court on Thursday, January 25th, 2024.

“The other two males, aged in their 30s and 40s, have also been charged and to appear before Mullingar District Court on Friday, January 26th, 2024.

“Investigations are ongoing.”
