Heywood Community School were crowned Leinster Junior ‘C’ camogie champions recently following a fine with over Our Lady of Lourdes Rosbercon.

Freshford was the venue on January 20 where the girls ran out comprehensive 18 point winners.

The side is managed by teachers Lydia Fitzpatrick and Emily Ruttle.

While they are joint captained by wing forward Maya Donoghue and midfielder Kaylah O’Mara.

Heywood started well and built up a 3-5 to 2-3 lead over their Wexford opponents from New Ross.

And they added four more goals to that tally as they simply blew Rosbercon away in the second half in difficult weather conditions.

The team worked tirelessly throughout with some excellent defensive play from Sive O’Reilly and Grainne Dowling on show.

Kaylah O’Mara and Aideen Gee’s work ethic was a force to be reckoned with in midfield.

While sharpshooters Holly Brennan, Niamh O’Shea and Eimear Murphy were top class.

Heywood return to action this Friday when they contest the All-Ireland semi final.

The game is scheduled for Clontarf and they will take on Ulster champions St Mary’s Magherafelt at 2pm.
