Grand opening of Laois’s newest playground scheduled for Sunday

The Ballyfin Community Development Association has announced the grand opening of the ‘Dún Mhic Cumhaill’ Playground will take place on Sunday, February 4, at 2 pm.

This exciting event will take place at the playground site, and all members of the community are cordially invited to attend.

Ballyfin’s new playground – Dún Mhic Cumhaill (Fort of McCumhaill) – is named in honour of Fionn McCumhall who, legend has it, grew up in Ballyfin at the foot of the Slieve Bloom Mountains.

The official opening ceremony will feature a delightful entertainment session for children, headlined by the talented Jeca the Clown.

Families can expect an afternoon filled with laughter, joy, and memorable moments as we inaugurate this new recreational space in our beloved community.

The festivities won’t end with the playground unveiling. Following the ceremony, all attendees are invited to join us for refreshments at the Old School Ballyfin, where the spirit of community and camaraderie will continue to flourish.

A spokesperson said: “We look forward to celebrating this momentous occasion with the entire community.

“Everyone is welcome to join us in marking the beginning of a new era of play and community engagement in Ballyfin.

“The Ballyfin Community Development Association is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in Ballyfin through various community initiatives and projects.

“The ‘Dún Mhic Cumhaill’ Playground is a testament to the association’s commitment to creating vibrant and inclusive spaces for all residents.

“This project is part-funded by CLÁR on behalf of Department of Community and Rural Development in conjunction with Laois County Council.

“We also wish to acknowledge additional grants received from AXA Community Parks Fund, Tesco Ireland Community Fund and Laois County Council and the people of Ballyfin who donated so generously to our fundraising efforts.”
