Here’s a glimpse of what’s happening at SOLAS this weekend:

Learn the ancient art of crafting a St. Brigid’s Cross from reeds, with all materials provided. It’s the perfect activity for families and individuals to while away a couple of hours.

SOLAS Garden Centre is a haven of inspiration, designed to reignite your passion for gardening. Explore their newly installed antiques stand or discover unique Irish treasures at the popular Irish Collectables Stand, overseen by historian and collector Brian Woods.

On Saturday, don’t miss the return of the SOLAS Farmers Market, offering a chance to savour delicious local produce, from organic meats to handmade cakes.

Looking ahead to February, mark your calendars: On Sunday, February 11th, SOLAS will host a vintage and Craft Market, adorned with Valentine’s Day charm. Dive into a curated selection of vintage finds and handmade crafts, perfect for discovering that one-of-a-kind Valentine’s Day gift.

Later in February, the ever-popular Car Boot Sale makes its return on Sunday, February 18th. It’s an excellent opportunity to declutter your house, empty the shed, and explore the attic for hidden treasures. This will be the first year of the SOLAS garden festival and plans are underway for an action packed weekend of events, deals, guest speakers, garden demonstrations, plant swaps, food stalls and events and fun for kids. Lots more to follow over the coming weeks

Camellias are evergreen; come in a wide range of varieties with simple through to frilly, full blooms. Flowering late winter to early spring, Camellias can grow up to 20m, however they can be easily contained in pots.

Require ericaceous (acid) soil in a shady position. To make the most of the flowers, protect from wind.

This coming bank holiday weekend is set to be a dry one. Friday to Monday show overcast days. With day time temperatures reaching 9 to 11 degrees. So maybe we are past the worst of the winter freeze and time to start planning our gardening year!
