Laois student awarded prestigious farming scholarship by Irish Creamery Milk Suppliers Association

Alex Redmond Win ISMSA Award

A Laois student has been named as one of four winners of a prestigious farming scholarship worth €1,500.

Rosenallis’ Alex Redmond was presented with his cheque by the Irish Creamery Milk Suppliers Association.

He was one of four winners of the 2023 John Feely Foundation Scholarship.

John Feely was leader of the association from July 1961 until October 1968.

Alex is the second successive Laois person to win as Portlaoise’s David Grehan won in 2022.

A former Mountrath Community School student, Alex received the award from ICMSA President Denis Drennan in Limerick recently.

Alex, along with three others, were chosen as the winners at ICMSA AGM last November.

The draw is open to sons and daughters of ICMSA members engaged in their first year of studying farming or specified farm-related courses at accredited institutions or colleges.

Clonakilty; Kildalton; Pallaskenry; Gurteen; Mountbellew; Ballyhaise; or studying an agriculture-related course in another third level institution.

“The standard we’re seeing in the young dairy farmers coming through bodes well for the sector.

“They’re technically very strong and environmentally aware, they’re also committed to building on the standards already achieved.

“ICMSA is delighted to be associated with the John Feely Scholarship programme and we’ll be getting out the details for the 2024 awards programme in due course, and we’d welcome applications from the dairy families of Laois.”
