Laois secondary school receives planning approval for four new classrooms, engineering room and lab

Portlaoise College has been given initial approval for a new modular school extension by the Minister for Education Norma Foley.

The news has been confirmed this evening by Laois TD Sean Fleming who is the Minister for State at the Department of Foreign Affairs.

This initial approval to deliver four new classrooms, one new engineering room and one new science lab.

Deputy Fleming welcomed the news and said it is positive for the future of education in Laois.

He said: “This is very welcome news for the school community and will cater for the growing number of students in Portlaoise College.

“The project has been directly devolved to the Laois and Offaly Education and Training Board (LOETB).

“I look forward to the LOETB progressing this project as quickly as possible.

“This new school extension will further add to the excellent facilities that Portlaoise College has to offer.

“Education is a key priority for Fianna Fáil in Government. It is important to invest in education, and in turn invest in young people’s futures.

“Education is the key to young people’s success.”
