Irish Water, now called Uisce Eireann, has submitted a planning application to upgrade the water treatment plant in Ballyroan.

The plan to upgrade the treatment plant will comprise of the installation of an additional new wastewater treatment stream.

It also includes a new above ground storm water holding tank, a new sludge holding tank and the installation of new filters.

Laois TD Sean Fleming, who is Minister for State at the Department of Foreign Affairs, welcomed the move.

He explained how Ballyroan is rapidly growing and better facilities are required to service the needs of the people.

He said: “I welcome the planning application by Irish Water (Uisce Éireann) to upgrade the Wastewater Treatment Plant in Ballyroan.

“Ballyroan is a growing village with a growing population. Many new homes have been built in the area in recent years.

“An upgrade to the Wastewater Treatment Plant is needed to serve the needs of these new homes and growing population.

“An environmental impact assessment (Natura Impact Statement) has been prepared in relation to the proposed development.

“I look forward to the planning application being approved and the works commencing as soon as possible to meet the needs of the local community in Ballyroan.”
