Laois County Council has encouraged people interested in the Domestic Waste Water Treatment (septic tank) scheme to contact the Council’s Environment Section to register their interest.
Mr Simon Walton, Director of Services said: “I know there are people out there who have concerns regarding their domestic waste water treatment systems.
“My advice to them would be to make contact with the Environment Section, register your interest, and we will arrange for an inspection of the site.”

Mr Walton was responding to a question from Fianna Fáil Cllr Paddy Bracken, who has continued to highlight the issue over recent months.
While Cllr Bracken welcomed the clarity of Mr Walton’s statement, he told LaoisToday that he is concerned if the figures stated will be sufficient.
Cllr Bracken said that the grant covers 85% of septic tank works, up to €12,000 – but that many people may not be able to afford to cover the remaining 15%.
The Fianna Fáil Cllr also said he believes the grant may not be sufficient to cover the cost of extensive works that may be required on certain properties.
Cllr Bracken also raised the problems faced in Mountmellick, saying huge urban areas of the town are not serviced by a dedicated waste water management system.
It is far from the first time the issue has been raised at Council meetings.
“There needs to be a proper sewage network in Mountmellick,” Cllr Bracken said.
Further stressing the importance of he matter, Cllr Bracken reiterated his belief that the poor sewage system in Mountmellick is causing “serious pollution” to the town’s rivers and waterways.
