National Camogie League Division 3A: Two from two as Laois travel away to Armagh and win

Laois v Armagh Camogie

Laois 3-12 Armagh 0-12
National Camogie League Division 3A Round 2

Laois made it two wins from two in the National Camogie league following a nine point victory over Armagh on Saturday.

Robert Jones and Pat Collier’s side ran out convincing winners and back things up after their great victory over Kildare last week.

There was drama with this one before the game even started as Laois were forced to give away home advantage.

Laois were due to play in the Centre of Excellence but the bad weather on Friday left the pitch unplayable and no replacement venue could be found.

Instead, late on Friday, the decision was made that Laois would have to travel north with the game taking place in St Mary’s GAA Tassagh instead.

Despite the disruption, Laois made a good start to the game with points from Aimee Collier, Eimear Hassett and Liaden C-Fennell.

Armagh responded with frees but then Laois struck for their first goal in the tenth minute when great build up play ended with Hassett rattling the net.

It was nip and tuck after that with Collier pointing frees and Armagh responding to leave it 1-6 to 0-6 at half time.

Laois began the second half really well with Collier landing two more frees and Amy Flanagan also pointing.

And the contest was over by the midpoint of the half when the excellent Eimear Hassett blasted in her second goal of the game.

Armagh kept plugging away but Laois introduced Andrea Scully from the bench and she made a serious impact.

The Camross ace began with a peach of a point and then settled the game before the end with Laois’s third goal.

Laois travel to Roscommon next Saturday with a place in the league semi finals almost guaranteed.
