Laois Walk For Peace to be held in Portlaoise this Saturday in solidarity with people of Palestine

A Walk For Peace has been organised this weekend in solidarity with the people of Palestine.

The protest will take place in Portlaoise on Saturday afternoon, March 9.

Independent County Councillor Aisling Moran is one of the figures behind the Walk For Peace.

Cllr Moran has been vocal about the situation in Gaza and the wider Israeli war on Palestine since before Christmas.

“Everyone is invited to join the Walk for Peace this Saturday, March 9,” Cllr Moran said.

“We will gather at 1.30pm at Portlaoise Leisure Centre and we’ll walk down Main Street.

Afterwards we’ll have speakers from Palestine, poetry by Laura Murphy, music, and tea and coffee.

“Donations for the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) are welcomed.”

The Walk comes as Tánaiste Micheál Martin has said Ireland is “actively considering taking part in an aid drop to Gaza along with Jordan.”

The situation in Palestine has been worsening every day since the atrocities began six months ago.

Israel has killed an estimated 30,000 people – approximately half of them children.
