Portlaoise GAA planning community event on Easter Sunday to remember the late David Brown

Portlaoise GAA are set to host a community event on Easter Sunday, March 31, in memory and to honour the late David Brown.

David died on Easter Sunday last year following a quad bike accident at the age of 15.

David’s passing shook the entire Laois community and left his family, school friends and sporting comrades heartbroken.

From 11am to 1pm on the day, there will be be several exhibition matches between teams from within the club and outside.

The Laois and Portlaoise teams which David was part of will also face off against each other in memory of their teammate.

The Portlaoise Ladies Football teams will also feature with the Junior team playing the Minor side.

The centrepiece of day will be the official opening of the club’s new walking track from 1pm to 2pm.

The community will then walk as a as a whole around the track in memory of David and in support of the Brown family.

Portlaoise GAA chairman Eamonn Fennelly is inviting all in Laois to come on the day and remember David.

He said: “There will be a big crowd on the day because of the profound impact this tragedy had, but also because of the popularity of the Brown family in Portlaoise and Laois.

“Gardai are helping us with traffic management and where possible we are urging people to car pool, or to park away from the grounds and walk a little.”
