Portlaoise Institute

Portlaoise Institute is delighted to offer students the opportunity to train as teachers in their new Pre-University Education and Training Level 5 further education course.

Students will delve into various educational systems, teaching practices, and key issues in education, gaining a broad understanding of the profession.

This course is aimed at students who want to pursue a career in Education, or students who are at present uncertain and want to test their compatibility to a teaching career before committing to a four-year degree programme.

One of the distinguishing features of this course is its emphasis on developing college-readiness skills. With a focus on academic writing, referencing, study skills, collaboration, presentation skills, and effective time management, students will be well-prepared to excel in a higher education environment.

Key modules include: Concepts in Education & Training, Interpersonal & Group Behaviour, Communications, Peer Mentoring, Work Experience, Psychology, Research & Study Skills and Word Processing.

Keith McClearn, Principal of Portlaoise Institute said “This comprehensive program provides students with a unique opportunity to explore the teaching profession and its methodologies, setting a strong foundation for those considering a career in education.

“As the demand for teachers in soaring, the introduction of this course could help in the training of teachers, we are thrilled to introduce our Pre-University Education and Training course, offering students a valuable opportunity to explore the teaching profession and develop essential skills. Normally students from Portlaoise would have to travel to train as teachers, now they can pursue a career in education on their doorstep.”

Registration for the Pre-University Education and Training course is now open. Interested individuals are encouraged to apply through the Portlaoise Institute website www.portlaoiseinstitute.ie
