The St. Joseph’s Sunday Choir made presentations to the retiring organist, Audrey Whelan, at a function in the Hollow Bar in Mountmellick recently.

Audrey’s family and most of the choir were present at the event which took place last Saturday, March 23.

This choir was formed by Audrey, who hails from Mountmellick, in 2005 and sings at 12 o’clock Mass weekly in St Joseph’s Church in Mountmellick every Sunday.

The choir has been greatly praised throughout the years especially for its singing at Christmas and Easter Masses.

While their Christmas Carol Service in December every year also proved a big hit.

The choir produced a CD, Sing to the Lord, some years ago, recorded and mixed by Audrey’s son, Graham.

There were 12 hymns recorded for the CD and all proceeds went to the Cuisle Cancer Support centre in Portlaoise.

The choir was invited to sing at a Mass in the basilica in Knock in 2012.

Presentations were made to Audrey, on behalf of all the choir members, by Mary Fallon and Phil Farrell.

Happy retirement to Audrey and check out some great pictures below:
