The late David Brown was remembered by a huge crowd at a community event in Portlaoise GAA’s ground at Rathleague on Easter Sunday.

David died on Easter Sunday last year following a quad bike accident at the age of 15.

David’s passing shook the entire Laois community and left his family, school friends and sporting comrades heartbroken.

A huge crowd was present on Sunday as the day got underway with a series of exhibition matches.

The centrepiece of day was the official opening of the club’s new walking track.

The community gathered together and walked as collective around the track in memory of David and in support of the Brown family.

Reflecting on the day, Portlaoise GAA chairman Teddy Fennelly

He said: “Easter Sunday was a bittersweet day in the history of our club. We just had to remember David in a meaningful way.

“His sporting talent is well documented but this was allied with a resilient nature, a good heart, strong work rate, and a great sense of fun and humour.

“As a club we are heartbroken for Carmel, James, Conor and Sarah. For the Brown and Moloney families. And his teammates and friends. We want to help them through their grief in whatever way we can.

“I hope people got some little bit of comfort from the Remembrance Day. There was a huge turnout and it was a very emotional day.

“The Brown family have asked me to thank everybody who attended, and everybody who has helped them in any way since Easter Sunday 2023.”

Photographer Rene Metelicka was present in Rathleague to capture it all on Sunday.
