All systems go as entries for TriLaois 2024 set to close this week ahead of event

TriLaois 2024

Competitors from almost every county in Ireland will take part in TriLaois 2024 on April 13 in Portlaoise.

Hosted by the local Trilogy Triathlon Club, it is the much loved and well established first triathlon of the season in Ireland.

And organisers have confirmed that entries for this year’s event will close on Friday, April 5.

Once again it is being sponsored by Joe Mallon Motors who sponsor race t-shirts and medals along with a cash sponsorship to host the event.

Starting and finishing at Laois Leisure in Portlaoise, it is a pool-based triathlon and will cater for up to 400 athletes, over half of them travelling from outside the county to participate.

Those behind the event say that there are just 40 places remaining.

The triathlon comprises a 750-metre or 400-metre swim at Laois Leisure, followed by a scenic 20km cycle that journeys the participants out towards Emo and back via the Borris Road.

And for the first time, they will also host the Intervarsity National Championships alongside the main event.

They said: “Whether you’re a seasoned pro or dipping your toes into the world of tri, we’ve got distances to suit every level.

“Try a Tri, Sprint, Relay plus the exhilarating Intervarsity Championships.

“Join us for a well-run, pool-based race right in the heart of the Midlands. Expect top-notch marshalling and a friendly atmosphere.

“TriLaois is also one of the cheapest races on the calendar, with a free t-shirt and medal for everyone.

“It’s a race that’s suitable for complete beginners as it’s pool based and well marshalled, as well as the seasoned triathlete.

“It’s at the perfect time of the year to kick your season off and get a good measure of fitness in the lead up to Joey Hannon and races beyond.

“Our race is located in the heart of the midlands, just a short trip off the motorway, making it very easy to get to.”
