Road safety improvement measures ‘badly needed’ across rural parts of Laois

A Laois County Councillor has raised numerous road safety concerns at the April meeting of the Graiguecullen-Portarlington Municipal District meeting.

Fianna Fáil Cllr Paschal McEvoy called on Laois County Council to make several “badly needed” safety improvements at locations in Timahoe, Vicarstown and Stradbally.

Cllr McEvoy first called on the Council carry to “carry out a Safety Assessment at Kerr’s Corner, Timahoe.”

Mr James Dowling, Senior Executive Engineer at the Council’s Road Design Department said staff from the Department will meet Cllr McEvoy on site and carry out a safety inspection.

Next, Cllr McEvoy called for the Council to carry out works in Vicarstown to alleviate the flooding.

Mr Philip McVeigh, Senior Executive Engineer replied, saying:

“Laois County Council will arrange a site inspection with a view to resolving any potential flooding at this location.”

Finally, the Fianna Fáil Cllr called for a Council investigation into the flooding of a house at Corrig, Stradbally.

Mr Tom Drennan, Area Engineer said Council staff will “arrange a site inspection with a view to resolving any potential flooding at this location.”
