Uisce Éireann under fire as Councillor describes company as ‘a bit of a disaster’

Uisce Éireann have come under fire from Laois County Councillors at April’s Graiguecullen-Portarlington Municipal District meeting this week.

Independent Cllr Aisling Moran began by calling on the County Council to “ask Uisce Éireann why they have turned the water pressure down in Stradbally and to please increase the pressure.”

Mr Adrian Barrett, Senior Engineer said the Council “will contact Uisce Eireann” and “revert to the members with an update when a response is received.”

Cllr Moran said of the water in her area that “the worst thing that ever happened was letting Uisce Eireann at it.”

The complaints were supporterd by Fianna Fáil Cllr Paschal McEvoy, who said this is “a crazy set-up.”

Cllr McEvoy added that “Uisce Éireann are a bit of a disaster.”

Cllr Moran then called for the Council to carry out drainage works on the N80, including the cleaning of a concrete drainage channel and the removal of blockages from bridges at Maidenhead culvert and Milltown road junction.

Mr James Dowling, Senior Executive Engineer at the Road Design Department said his department will “liaise with the area office to carry out maintenance works.”

Cllr Moran concluded by calling for the installation of traffic bollards in Imleach Estate, The Swan “to prevent vehicles from parking or driving on the green area.”

Mr Tom Drennan, Area Engineer said Laois County Council “will review the location,” adding “this assessment will subject to identify appropriate preventative measures on the matters raised.”
