Young Laois person receives Garda Youth Award for his ‘commitment to choosing the right path’

A young person from Laois has been honoured at the 2024 Laois/Offaly Garda Divisional Youth Awards, held in the Killeshin Hotel in Portlaoise.

Danny Talbot, a 13-year-old living in Portarlington, has received an Special Achievement Award, recognising his commitment to choosing the right path and overcoming difficult personal circumstances.

The Garda Youth Awards recognise the outstanding achievement of young people between the ages of 13 and 21, who have undertaken exceptional work in their local communities or who have shown great determination in their own lives.

Danny was nominated by his principal at Coláiste Íosagáin, Mr Justin Brown.

“Danny Talbot is a phenomenal young person who has overcome difficult personal circumstances in his life,” Mr Brown said.

“He is an excellent student and he conducts himself in a very efficient manner with his schoolwork always in order.

“He displays great focus and diligence in his approach to his school work.

“Danny is described by those who know him as a role model for other students.

“He has settled very well into life in Portarlington but he remains an avid Dublin supporter.

“Danny is an exceptionally resilient and strong individual.

“He has learned to deal with his personal circumstances as a young person living away from his family in a positive manner.

“He displays a level of maturity and determination beyond his years.

“The challenges that Danny has encountered have never defined him and he has displayed the ability to bounce back from adversity.”
