Full list of properties sold in Laois during March, including two sold for over half a million euro

There were 73 residential properties sold in Laois in the second month of the year according to the Property Price Register, a significant decrease on the 2023 figure.

Last March saw 111 homes sold, almost 35% more than this year.

It is the third consecutive monthly decline in Laois property sales, after January and February also saw a drop-off in activity.

The figure for March 2024 is slightly skewed, as the top-selling property listed was actually for six houses, all under one sale.

Houses 174 to 179 in Clonroosk Abbey, Portlaoise were sold for a combined €1,453,744; approximately €242,290 per unit.

Of the houses sold this month, 18 broke the €300,000 barrier, with two of those exceeding €400,000, and another two exceeding half a million.

The most expensive house in the county was sold for €550,000 in Rivercourt, Grange, just outside Maganey.

Laois County Lodge on the Dublin Road in Portlaoise followed closely, selling for €525,000.

A property in Derrykearn, Abbeyleix sold for €480,000, followed by Shanragh Bridge Farmhouse in Shanragh for €425,000.

Meanwhile, 7 Aghnahara Drive, Stradbally Road in  Portlaoise went for €392,000; a property in Croosleigh, Ballyhide for €385,000; 53 Hawthorn Drive, Portlaoise for €380,000; and 27 Sruth Na Ghleanna in Killeshin which sold for €378,855.

These 18 houses represent almost 23% of the total houses sold, up from 18% of houses sold in March 2023 that exceeded the €300,000 barrier.

Overall, there was just over €18 million spent on houses in Laois this March – €6 million less than 2023.

The average price for a house in Laois was €229,000 for March, up from €224,000 the same month last year, representing a 2% increase year on year.

However, it falls €10,000 short of the average house price in February of this year and €31,000 short of January’s figure.

It puts the average price for a house in Laois at €242,000 for the first quarter of the year.

There can be some anomalies in the figures on the Property Price Register but it is regarded as the most accurate barometer of activity on the residential property scene in Ireland.
