A Laois farmer has been recognised at the Guinness Ireland Regenerative Barley Awards.

Bobby Miller, a farmer from Stradbally, was ‘highly commended’ by the judges.

The competition focuses on improved soil health, enhancing biodiversity, actively working to reduce carbon emissions, and improve water quality.

Stradbally farmer Bobby Miller, said “We’ve been introducing regenerative farming practices for a few years now and are committed to enhancing the wildlife on our farm by leaving space for nature.

“Improving soil structure with the use of cover crops and implementing minimum tillage for some crops we are growing is a key management area for us,” he continues.

“To be recognised by Guinness, is very welcome and we hope to inspire more farmers across Ireland by sharing our knowledge and learnings.”

The award recognises a barley grower in Ireland who follows the criteria given to the judges, where they are individually marked.

The winner of the award gets €2,500, and the highly commended farmer gets €500.
