Athletics: St Abban’s compete in the Leinster Novice and Master’s Road Championships

Last Saturday, May 4, athletics club St Abban’s had 20 athletes participate at the Leinster Novice and Master’s Road Race held on the one mile loop in Gowran, Kilkenny.

On a perfect day for running, St Abban’s found glory hard to come by. That was until a team of Margo Dowling, Karen Kavanagh and Carmel Ryan Byrne grabbed 2nd place and silver medals in the F20 category.

Sinead Kelly and Caitriona McDonald also competed in the Master’s category but were one teammate short of a competitive team.

In the Master’s men, Dermot Ayers led the St Abban’s charge finishing in 21st place with Tom Kenny hot on his tail coming in at 30th followed home by Patrick Dunne, Phillip O’Hara, Liam Byrne and Francis Fleming.

In the Novice ladies race Caitlin McDonald had a fine run coming just short of a medal in 4th place with Vivienne Kenny, Sinead Kelly and Cathy Lawlor forming the team which finished in an impressive 6th place overall.

The Men’s team placed 6th in a competitive M35 category, and the Novice Men’s team was led home by Richie Harte in 16th, Billy Ramsbottom finished 31st, Tom Kenny was out again and finished 39th and Seamus Brennan completed the team who finished in 8th overall.

Well done to all the St Abban’s athletes who competed on the day representing their club and Laois very well.

South Leinster Schools Track and Field

Day 2 of the South Leinster Track and Field took place on Wednesday last with a host of club athletes competing very well among a range of events.

While results are unavailable at the time of writing many club athletes will progress to Leinster Schools pitting themselves vs the best Leinster has to offer.

Fit4Life Summer League

Finally. on Wednesday, May 8, will the return of Fit4Life Summer League with the 1st stage taking place in the familiar surroundings of Luggacurran.

Entry is available online at Pop-up Races and they will look forward to seeing new and old faces on Wednesday evening for the start of the Summer League.
