Local Elections: Portlaoise candidate unveils song ahead of polling day

No matter what way you garner a vote, they all count the same in a ballot box.

And a Laois Local Election candidate has launched a song ahead of polling day.

Pauline Flanagan, an Independent candidate in the Portlaoise Municipal District, used an AI (Artificial Intelligence) tool to generate the song.

She simply supplied the tool with her name, that she was running for election and requested a ‘Country’ song.

Matched to video of her at various locations around the area, it makes for a catchy tune that is sure to draw attention with prospective voters and on social media.

The video begins with her sitting on a vintage tractor at a recent event in Ballyroan wearing a cowboy hat and continues with shots in the likes of Raheen, Shaen and of course in Portlaoise.

“So won’t you vote for Pauline,” goes the singer, in his country drawl.

“She’s able and she’s true. She’ll make the world a better place with everything she’ll do.

“I’ve seen the way she listens to every single voice. She’s got a soul that’s pure and kind and it’s the people’s choice.”

Flanagan, who works as a lecturer in SETU Carlow, previously ran for Fianna Fáil in the 2019 Local Elections and 2020 General Elections when she missed out.

This time she is running as an Independent where she is one of 20 candidates in the Portlaoise distrcit. Nine of the candidates are women, making it one of the areas in the country with the highest percentage of females.
