Clonaslee High Nelly Club hosted a fundraiser in support of the St. Manmans’s Church roof restoration on August 4.
The unpredictable weather conditions on Sunday afternoon didn’t deter over 50 eager cyclists from getting on a selection of restored High Nelly bicycles.
As they descended upon a route which saw them travel down the Tullamore Road, passing St. Manman’s Church, before returning and cycling in unison through the village.
Upon returning to the village, the cyclists were welcomed back by the numerous community members who attended the event.
Noel Delaney kindly served an array of treats and a variety of baked goods were sold in a bake sale which contributed to the fundraising efforts.
An auction was held where bids were flying in for Laois and Offaly jerseys and a hurl signed by Offaly’s U-20 All Ireland winning team.
John Cusack, on behalf of the Church Roof Restoration effort, spoke to MC Paddy Keating about the endeavour, noting a sum in the region of €200,000 is needed overall.
He said: “We appreciate and wholeheartedly want to commend the High Nelly committee for selecting the restoration for today’s event. There’s always a great community spirit in Clonaslee”.
As the evening progressed, talented musician Lorcan O’Rourke took to the stage in Hickey’s Pub, providing an excellent entertainment.
