One of Laois’s newest soccer clubs, Cappakeel FC are on the lookout for a new and permanent home.
Originally formed as a splinter club away from Emo Rangers, Cappakeel FC found a home in Portlaoise and in the KDFL (Kildare District Football League).
The club has seen unexpected, exponential growth in their first year, and their current base at Portlaoise Leisure Centre no longer meets the club’s needs.
Cappakeel have a squad of 25 players currently playing in Kildare’s summer league, but have an entirely new squad preparing for the CCFL’s winter season, starting in September.
The two squads contain players predominantly from Portlaoise, but also have players from Mountrath, Rathdowney, and over the border in Kildare.
The club have also explored the possibility of adding a women’s senior team, with training already underway.
This rapid growth has turned the club’s attention to finding a more permanent home, one that can facilitate the needs of three senior squads.
Club Vice Chairman, Mick Ryan told LaoisToday that their ideal new home would be in a central area, no more than a ten-minute drive from Portlaoise.
Cappakeel have looked into possible pitches in Portlaoise, Stradbally, The Heath and Emo, but to no avail.
“We’re just looking for either a pitch that’s already there that a club would rent to us; or a flat patch of land somewhere that we could look after ourselves,” Mr Ryan said.
