New signage and repairs sought for Clonaslee, Rosenallis and Garryhinch

New signage and signage that needs to be repaired were topics for discussion at the Borris-In-Ossory/Mountmellick Municipal District this week.

Fianna Fail Councillor Seamus McDonald, who is also the Cathaoirleach, brought forward motions on the matter.

Firstly, Cllr McDonald asked for ‘Children at Play’ signs to be put up at McCann’s house, Cush in Clonaslee.

Originally, senior engineer Rory O’Callaghan said that this would not happen.

He said: “This house is located on the L-20064, a local tertiary road at Brockagh.

“The house is located on a well secured site where children can play safely. It is not proposed to provide ‘Children at Play’ signs at this location.”

But Cllr McDonald said that the location spoken about in the response was not exact and Mr O’Callaghan agreed to meet Cllr McDonald there to look again.

In a second motion, Cllr McDonald asked that the Council replace danger signs at the Church of Ireland, Rosenallis.

In reply, Mr O’Callaghan said: “The Western Area Office will remove the painted black and amber signs.

“They will be replaced in the new year with either wall mounted or pole mounted modern reflective signs.”

While finally, Cllr McDonald requested that the Council erect signs for Church of Ireland at Garryhinch.

Mr O’Callaghan said: “The provision of directional signs for the church will be considered.

“A road survey will be carried out to determine appropriate safe locations for the signs.”
