ELECTED: Sean Fleming elected to the Dail for the seventh time for Fianna Fail

Sean Fleming has been elected to the Dail for the seventh time following the conclusion of counting in the Laois constituency.

The Fianna Fail TD is now one of longest serving politicians in Leinster House.

He took one of the three available seats behind Willie Aird (Fine Gael) and ahead of Brian Stanley (Independent).

First elected in 1997, he has held his seat in each of the subsequent elections.

That was 2002, 2007, 2011, 2016 (when he topped the poll for the first time) 2020 and now, 2024.

His 2011 re-election was particularly impressive as he was one of the few Fianna Fail politicians to retain his seat as the party was almost wiped out.

Fine Gael’s Willie Aird was elected after the Fifth Count with Sean Fleming getting over the line in after Count 8.

It was transfers from Aisling Moran (Independent) that pushed him over the quota and returned him for another term.
