A village in Laois “urgently needs public lighting” as the community has been left “in complete darkness.”
That is according to Laois TD Brian Stanley, who says the issue is affecting “numerous residents” in Castletown.
“The Junction at the Mountrath end of Castletown urgently needs public lighting,” Deputy Stanley said.
The Independent Republican that part of the village “is in complete darkness and this poses a real danger for pedestrians, motorists, and cyclists.”
This is in contrast to the junction at the Pike of Rushall end of Castletown, which Deputy Stanley described as “very well lit up.”
The matter was brought to Laois County Council, who “have now surveyed this area and agree that public lighting is badly needed there,” according to Deputy Stanley.
The Council has “made progress” on the matter, with a full Topographical Survey already carried out.
A lighting design has also completed as part of the operation.
Laois County Council have requested a qauotation from the lighting contractor, which will be needed before the operation can move on to the next phase.
“I am anxious that adequate lighting is erected in the vicinity of this junction and that it is made safe for the residents of Castletown,” Deputy Stanley said.
