The Laois handballers at the Leinster Juvenile B Handball 40×20 Championships over the past weekend.
A number of Leinster B titles were captured by Laois handballers along with some excellent performances and other near misses to add to the title count.
Carrie and Caoimhe Brennan (Monavea) were crowned the Girls U-13 Leinster ‘B’ champions after their Dublin opponents of Sophie Reardon and Olivia Casey had to give a walkover when they were unable to fulfil the fixture.
In Crinkle, Laois were competing in the Girls U-12 ‘B’ doubles final and the Girls U-13 ‘B’ singles final.
Sophie Ellis and Beth Phelan (Cullohill) recorded a wonderful victory against Meath in the Girls U-12 ‘B’ doubles final.
Despite a brilliant performance, Lucy Lafferty (Cullohill) was edged out in a very entertaining final against Wexford in the Girls U-13 ‘B’ singles final.
In Tinryland, Aoife Holland produced a superb performance to defeat her Kilkenny opponent in the Girls U-14 ‘B’ singles final.
This success was followed up when Annie Grant (Monavea) defeated her Kilkenny opponent to take the U-15 ‘B’ singles.
Remarkably, a third title was to follow with Ellie Lafferty and Aoife Kelly (Cullohill) recording a superb victory against Kilkenny in the Girls U-17 ‘B’ doubles final.
Unfortunately, in the Boys U-17 ‘B’ doubles final, Mark Dowling and Ollie Delaney (Cullohill) were narrowly defeated by Kilkenny in a tie-breaker after a very high-quality game of handball.
The final Leinster title captured by Laois was in the Boys U-15 ‘B’ doubles where Michael and Darragh Brennan (Monavea) travelled to Wexford to face and beat the Wexford team.
This left Laois with a total of six Leinster titles at the end of these championships.
This success is down to the massive efforts taking place within the clubs to develop and promote the game of handball.
