Internationally renowned player and coach Raj Popat puts Mountrath Badminton Club members through their paces

Mountrath Badminton Club recently had the incredible privilege of hosting a two-day Easter Camp led by renowned international coach Raj Popat.

Popat, a Welsh former badminton player in his own right, was recently appointed as Lead Badminton Coach for Team Great Britain ahead of the 2025 Youth Olympics.

The club said they were “absolutely delighted to welcome one of the very best in the sport to work with our players.”

Over the two days, the camp attracted more than 60 participants ranging in age from nine to 60 years old, creating a fantastic atmosphere of learning, energy, and enthusiasm across all levels of experience.

Popat brought his wealth of knowledge, passion, and professionalism to each session, focusing on technical development, tactical awareness, and the mental aspects of the game — elements that have seen him coach players to elite international standards.

The players responded brilliantly, soaking up Popat’s expertise and pushing themselves to new heights.

“Whether it was mastering new footwork drills, sharpening their net play, or learning how to approach competitive matches with a champion’s mindset, everyone came away with valuable lessons and renewed motivation,” the club said.

“A huge thank you goes to Raj for his time, energy, and incredible coaching, and to everyone who helped organise and support the camp.

“It was a memorable experience for all involved, and we are proud to have brought such a high-calibre event to Mountrath. We look forward to seeing the impact of Raj’s coaching on our players over the coming season — and to welcoming him back again in the summer.”

Mountrath Badminton Club is growing rapidly and the club are eager to welcome new members of all levels.

“Whether you’re picking up a racket for the first time or looking to develop your competitive edge,” they said. “Come join the fun, improve your skills, and be part of the vibrant Mountrath Badminton community.”
