Laois sisters fall just short in Leinster Ladies Handball minor and junior finals

The Leinster Ladies Handball Singles Finals took this weekend in Garryhill, County Carlow, with two Laois representatives in action.

Cullohill sisters Orla and Úna Brophy made it all the way to the provincial finals, with Orla competing in the Minor Championship and Úna in the Junior Championship.

Leinster Ladies Handball Minor Singles Final

Orla Brophy faced the formidable challenge of Kilkenny’s Katie Jordan in the minor final, where both players showcased plenty of skill and determination.

Unfortunately for Orla, victory went the way of the Kilkenny handballer who had to put in a phenomenal performance to take the title in two games.

Despite the loss, Orla once again demonstrated her ability to match the very best players in the country and will be optimistic of following in her older sisters’ footsteps in challenging for Leinster and All-Ireland titles in the years to come.

Leinster Ladies Handball Junior Singles Final

The Junior Final presented another intriguing battle with Úna Brophy and Wexford’s Doyle both in excellent form going into this final.

On the day, it was the Doyle who came out on top, playing some superb handball to record a 21-14, 21-11 victory.

Úna performed very well on the day and once again demonstrated that she can compete at the very highest level of the game.

She will be hopeful of building upon this performance when she enters into the All-Ireland series which will take place over the next couple of weeks.
