A Laois sports organisation are running open training sessions throughout the month of May in a bid to increase their number of female players.
Portlaoise RFC are inviting players to attend their open training sessions which will take place each Thursday in May, at 7.30pm.
The first session will be held this Thursday, May 8, at the Togher rugby club.
Training will be led by Portlaoise’s CCRO Dave Whelan as well as guest coach Emma Hooban.
Hooban is a former player at Portlaoise before she made the move to AIL side Blackrock College, winning the Division 1 title with the Dublin club in 2022.
The Portlaoise hooker has since played at provincial level for Leinster and made her international debut for Ireland in 2018.
As part of the programme, strength and conditioning sessions will also run throughout May and will take place each Tuesday at 8pm at the Togher gym.
The S&C sessions, beginning on Tuesday, May 6, will be led by Aoibhe Brennan.
The sessions are open to women of all ages, all fitness levels and all experience levels, with an emphasis on learning rugby skills and having fun throughout the summer.
Those interested are encouraged to contact Amanda on 085-8455116.
Following on from the May programme will be a summer of touch rugby through June and July.
Preparations for the women’s senior team will resume in August.
