Leinster Novice and Masters Road Championships

Athletes from St Abban’s AC made their annual trip to Gowran, Kilkenny, for the Leinster Novice and Master’s Road Championships where a sweltering day welcomed athletes from all across the province.

In the Master’s Men’s race Colin Coyne showed he is back in form when he took the M-45 category. Colin’s time of 20:15 was good enough for sixth overall.

Stephen Hunter wasn’t far behind finishing tenth overall in the race and seventh in the M-40 race.

Thomas Kenny was next home from the club finishing 18th in the race and sixth M-35 athlete.

Just behind was David McEvoy who finished seventh in the M-35.

Philip O’Hara completed the St Abban’s team when he placed 38th overall and third in the M-45 category.

The team competed in the M-35 category where they placed second club and third county.

Liam Byrne also claimed a medal on the day when his 53rd place overall and tenth place in the M-50 saw him score on the Laois M-50 County Team who won a bronze medal.

In the Master’s Women Karen Kavanagh finished third in the F-55 race and 34th in the overall race.

Niamh Quinn was the club’s only athlete taking part in the Novice Women’s race where she finished in eighth place.
