1 – Portlaoise GAA club set to take major step in redevelopment project

A stand, a gym, a clubhouse, 12 dressing rooms and indoor and outdoor astro turf facilities are part of Portlaoise GAA’s development project, which are to be progressed to the official planning stages this week.

The major multi-million euro project will be a loving and lasting legacy to club members Eoin and Dylan Fitzpatrick, who lost their lives tragically in a road traffic accident in the summer of 2023.

2 – Laois nine-year-old undertaking 1km swim to raise funds for Irish Cancer Society

A nine-year-old girl from Laois is preparing to undertake a 1km swim in a bid to raise funds for the Irish Cancer Society.

Sadhbh O’Mahony from Killenard will be swimming on Sunday, June 8, in memory of her grandparents, Bríd and Ger O’Mahony.

The Laois U-20 hurlers are through to the Leinster championship semi final following a brilliant performance against Wexford on Monday.

Derek Delaney’s charges were the better team for the majority of the game and won by six points in the end.

Clubs are required to list 15 players at each grade they compete at.

Laois got through to the quarter-final stages of the Leinster  Minor Hurling Championship after a thundering performance and victory over Offaly in Laois Hire O’Moore Park last Saturday.

Laois are back in the Leinster Intermediate Camogie final after they defeated Kilkenny by a point on Monday.

Laois lost the decider to Wexford by a point last year but will have another shot in two weeks time.

Fifth and Sixth Class students from Scoil Bhride in Mountrath were honoured at the Young Filmmaker of the Year awards recently.

At the start of April, students travelled to the Omniplex Cinema in Limerick for the Junior finals of the competition.
