Portlaoise bar and restaurant Nanny Kelly’s has closed its doors for business this week, just a year after opening.
Located in the old Egan’s premises on the bottom of Main Street, it’s understood that the Chris Kelly Group, who were behind the venture, and the O’Loughlin family who were the property owners, have parted on amicable terms.
Staff have been informed of the decision and all bookings have been cancelled.
The O’Loughlin family have owned the premises since 2014, which was previously the long-standing Egan’s Hostelry.
It is expected that the property will be put up for sale in the coming weeks.
Since the Egan family relinquished the building, it has traded in various different guises. After undergoing redevelopment, it opened as ‘The Blue Door’ in 2015.
For a while it was also home to the Manhattan Mixer nightclub brand, though that then moved to Copper’s in Market Square.
Lilly’s Bar and Kitchen, under proprietor Kieran Lillis opened in the summer of 2018 and had an official opening in October of that year. Former Dublin footballer Bernard Brogan was a partner in the business when it opened.
The venue was part of the overall NolaClan pub group, which runs venues across the country. and underwent a considerable refurbishment prior to its 2018 re-opening.
Lilly’s Bar and Kitchen closed in February of last year, before being leased by the Chris Kelly Group, a business which included the likes of Sinnotts, Capitol and The Black Lion in Dublin.
But the decision of that group to now withdraw marks the latest juncture for a premises that is a landmark in Portlaoise and on the heart of the town’s Main Street.
