Leinster Intermediate Camogie Final – Laois v Carlow
In Dr Cullen Park at 2pm on Saturday

Twelve months ago, the Laois camogie team were gearing up for a Leinster final showdown against Wexford.

They arrived in the final off the back of a one point National League defeat against Armagh.

One point would prove to be their downfall again in that Leinster final and the curse struck again in the All-Ireland final.

Fast forward 12 months and Laois have already overcome one hurdle by defeating Roscommon convincing in the league final.

They face Carlow later today in Dr Cullen Park and speaking on the Laois Hurling Podcast before hand, forward Aimee Collier discussed how the pain of last year has made them stronger.

Collier said: “I hope this year we can put right those three points all together that we lost in the three finals last year.

“I suppose winning the league finals is a great boost for us because I suppose it just kind of relieves us.

“We can push on and win these games. Last year was tough enough, losing out so narrowly.

“I think I’d rather lose well than lose by a point because you know you were nearly there. Little things could have changed the whole thing.

“It’s great to be back here again this year. I just hope this year we can put it right.

I think (winning the league) more so put the belief in us that we actually can do it, especially after last year.

“At the end of last year, we lost a few girls to travelling and different things. We have a lot of new girls in this year.

“It was good to see that it didn’t hinder us in any way. A lot of them are young. We’re still very young.”

The skorts controversy surrounding camogie continues to drag on and Laois plus Carlow will protest today.

But unlike last weekend, where the Munster championship was postponed after Cork and Waterford declared they would not wear skorts, Laois will change into them prior to throw in.

Captain Clodagh Tynan says that all the players want is choice and that her problem with skorts is that they aren’t comfortable.

She said: “I think a lot of the thing is the comfort of them.

“And they are uncomfortable. I think if you were to just look at them, yeah, they look well.

“We went around the other day and asked the panel and I think five of the girls said they prefer wearing skorts.

“And that is completely fine. All we are looking for is the choice to wear them or shorts.

“I think it has been forgotten in the debate that it’s the choice that we want to give people. Not just force them into shorts or force them into the skorts.”
