There was a busy evening of Laois GAA action across the codes and grades this evening with a selection of U-15 football league finals as well as a full round of games in ACFL Division 3 and 4.
ACFL Division 3
Goals from Conor Whelehan and Geoff Kennedy helped Timahoe come from five points down at half time to get the better of Portlaoise in Rathleague on a scoreline of 2-18 to 2-16.
It’s just Timahoe’s second win of the campaign but keeps their slim semi-final and promotion hopes alive with two rounds remaining. Portlaoise’s goals came from Ben Conroy and Jack Brown.
Mountmellick dropped their first point of the campaign, drawing 2-9 apiece with St Joseph’s in Kellyville, but they still remain at the top of ACFL Division 3 and are assured of a semi-final place.
In the other game in Division 3, Crettyard also picked up their second win, with a narrow 1-7 to 1-5 win over Graiguecullen. A late goal from Cormac Murphy was the deciding score there while Jonah Kelly hit 0-4.
ACFL Division 4
A very clear picture is emerging in Division 4 where Stradbally, Ballylinan, Annanough and Ballyroan-Abbey are almost all assured of semi-final spots.
Last year’s Division 5 champions Stradbally kept up their good form, and unbeaten record, by beating Killeshin 4-12 to 3-3. They are now top of the table and on course for a home semi-final if they stay there.
John Clancy got two first-half goals for Stradbally while David Dinneen and Ronan Creery got one apiece in the second half.
Micheal Downey, Kevin Byrne and Niall Hickey all got goals as Ballylinan got the better of a previously unbeaten Ballyroan-Abbey side on a scoreline of 3-12 to 1-15. The win puts Ballylinan through to the semi-final.
Annanough also took a massive step towards the knockout stages and a promotion playoff spot thanks to a big 3-16 to 0-8 win away to Barrowhouse, a result that ends Barrowhouse’s hopes.
Jake Darcy, John Scully and Damien McCaul all got goals for the winners. The Rock maintained their outside chance with a comfortable 1-21 to 2-4 win over Rosenallis. They will need to win their remaining two games to have any chance of progressing.
In ACHL Division 2, Camross were 3-17 to 2-11 winners over Clonaslee-St Manman’s where first-half goals from Daniel Delaney, Ashton Keenan and Andrew Collier sent them on their way.
