The Laois Hurlers Golfing Society got their season underway recently in the beautiful surrounds of Mountrath Golf Club.
The weather was idyllic, one of the best days of the year, which was a welcome change compared to the weather experienced during last year’s outing.
With a large turnout on show, the event was a resounding success.
As was to be expected, scoring on the day was excellent with only a handful of points separating the top players.
Winner on the day was Matthew Keegan with 40 points, the highlight of his round a spectacular hole in one on the difficult Par 3 10th Hole.
The Errill trio of Liam Wynne, Liam O’Dea and the evergreen Peter Bergin filled the remaining places, on the podium, alongside John Taylor, who captured the longest drive prize, and John Nolan.
Society Captain Philip Monnelly hosts the next outing which is scheduled for Rathdowney Golf Club on Saturday July 19.
Alex Stenson, one of chief organisers, encouraged new players to join them at the next outing.
He said: “If you played hurling at any level and hold a GUI handicap why not join us for a great day of golf and a chance to reminisce about the good old days.”
