Finline Furniture, a family-run Irish manufacturer with over 45 years of expertise, has been awarded the Excellence in Sustainability and Climate Action Award by the Laois Chamber of Commerce.
The award recognises the company’s long-standing commitment to sustainability, circularity, and community engagement, particularly through its innovative REVIVE by Finline sofa take-back programme.
Founded in 1979 by Kieran Finane in Emo, Finline has grown from a small workshop into one of Ireland’s leading bespoke furniture makers, now employing over 70 people.
Under the direction of Kieran’s sons, Ciaran and Kilian Finane, the company continues to champion high-quality craftsmanship, local employment, and eco-conscious production.
At the heart of Finline’s recent sustainability success is REVIVE by Finline – a circular initiative designed to ensure that existing Finline pieces find a new purpose rather than ending up in Landfill.
In partnership with Loved Back to Life by Aiséirí, a social enterprise that supports individuals in addiction recovery, REVIVE combines environmental impact with social empowerment.
Existing Finline sofas are collected and sent to these partners who start the restoration process which provides them with hands on experience, items then return to the Finline Workshop where Expert Teams finish the restoration process to keep them in circulation, these pieces are then resold at affordable prices – all while upholding the company’s exceptional standards.
Through the REVIVE by Finline Programme it has already diverted nearly 3 tonnes of sofas from landfill, with a further 5.5 tonnes been saved through our Recovery Service this year alone.
Each restored sofa is a testament to the longevity and quality of Finline’s original designs – but it also carries a deeper story of second chances and positive transformation.
“REVIVE is about more than furniture,” said Ciaran Finane, Director of Finline Furniture.
“It’s about extending the life of something well made, reducing environmental waste, and supporting individuals as they rebuild their lives through skilled work. We’re incredibly proud of what this programme has achieved.”
A key Finline contributor in the process from concept to implementation was Vanessa O’Rourke. Vanessa was crucial in getting the Revive programme up and running and getting all the stakeholders involved.
Finline’s approach to sustainability extends far beyond REVIVE. The company uses locally sourced, kiln-dried beechwood for its frames, and selects fabrics from European mills known for responsible production.
Looking to the future, Finline aims to reduce landfill waste by 15–17% by 2026, in part through fabric recycling partnerships, and is actively encouraging greater staff participation in community volunteering efforts.

Through REVIVE, customers are invited to take part in the company’s circular mission by donating old Finline sofas in exchange for a €100 reward per sofa.
The REVIVE process is straightforward:
- Customers complete an online form with basic information and photos.
- Finline arranges the collection or drop-off of the sofa.
- The sofa is restored by Finline’s expert team and participants from Aiséirí.
- The refurbished piece is resold at an accessible price point.
Beyond the environmental benefits, REVIVE by Finline also fosters a connection between customers and the company’s values.
