Two Laois men preparing for 500km cycle to raise funs for Irish Cancer Society’ Night Nurses division

Two Laois men are preparing to undertake a mammoth 500km cycle in an effort to raise funds for the Night Nurses division of the Irish Cancer Society.

Mark Young from The Heath and Joe Bland from Ballyroan (via Portlaoise) will get on their bikes on the upcoming June Bank holiday weekend for what Mark describes as a “hugely worthy cause.”

Mark lost his dad in February and said the support and professionalism of the Irish Cancer Society’s Night Nurses was “absolutely amazing.”

Mark and Joe have been training steadily for the cycle since deciding to undertake the challenge two months ago.

This includes a recent cycle from Ennis, where Mark works a personal trainer, to The Heath almost 150km away.

The Irish Cancer Society are a community of patients, survivors, volunteers, supporters, health and social care professionals and researchers.

They work towards transforming the experiences and outcomes of people affected by cancer through our advocacy, support services and research.

The Night Nursing Services provides night time care for patients and their families in their own home, providing extra support during what can be a difficult and anxious time.

Night Nurses provide nursing care, practical support and friendly reassurance of the highest standard, ensuring comfort and dignity throughout the night.

Those who wish to donate can do so through Mark and Joe’s GoFunMe page here, where they have already raised over €1,000.
