There is deep sadness in Portlaoise this week following the passing of Larry Brady.
From Beechlawn in Portlaoise, Mr Brady passed away on Monday, May 26, following a battle with illness.
Owner of Brady Signs in Portlaoise, Larry is survived by wife June and children Anthony, Anne and Paddy.
A motoring enthusiast, Larry was one of the founding members of Laois Rally Sport Club.
News of his passing was met by an outpouring of emotion from those who knew him and those in that community.
Taking to social media, Laois Rally Sport Club paid a heartfelt tribute.
They said: “It is with heavy hearts that we share the sad news of the passing of our dear friend and long-time Laois Rally Sport Club member, Larry Brady.
“Larry was the very definition of a true club man and rally driver — a prime example of everything our sport stands for.
“Passionate, dedicated, and endlessly generous with his time, Larry competed in rallies all across the country.
“There’s hardly a road in Ireland he didn’t travel, whether he was behind the wheel, marshalling, or lending a hand wherever it was needed.
“As we approach our own rally — an event Larry loved and supported with all his heart — the loss feels especially profound.
“Larry wasn’t just a competitor; he was family. His presence lit up service areas, stages, and social evenings alike. His love for motorsport was infectious, and his commitment unwavering.
“The Irish motorsport community has lost another legend, a man who lived and breathed the sport and gave so much to it.
“Our deepest thoughts are with Larry’s family at this time, especially his beloved wife June.
“Larry will forever hold a special place in our hearts and in Laois Rally Sport Club. We will miss him dearly.”
Larry was the grandfather to Tommy, Liam, Mena, Emmet, Niamh, Evan, Luke, Jamie and Tony.
Predeceased by his father, Tony, Larry is deeply regretted by his loving mother Rita, brothers Kevin, Murt, and Gaby, sisters Yvonne and Bernie.
Also by his daughters in law Sarah and Marese, son in law Joe, brothers in law, sisters in law, nephews, nieces, relatives, friends and all his customers and friends in Brady Recovery.
Larry will be reposing at his home on Wednesday from 4pm, with rosary at 8pm.
His Removal will take place on Thursday to arrive at SS Peter and Paul’s Church for 11am requiem mass. Burial afterwards in SS Peter and Paul’s Cemetery.
