The Laois senior footballers will be on the road next weekend as the draw for the preliminary quarter finals of the Tailteann Cup were made this evening.
Laois have been drawn away to Westmeath following the draw which took place on the GAA’s Youtube page.
With the Laois hurlers playing the Joe McDonagh Cup final on Sunday, this game will almost certainly by on Saturday.
Laois reached this stage after finishing in third place in their group following its conclusion yesterday.
Laois defeated Waterford in Round 1 but then lost away to Wicklow in Round 2.
They needed a result against Offaly yesterday to ensure progression and they got it.
A last minute penalty from Mark Barry proved the difference as Laois won 3-18 to 3-16 against their neighbours.
Wicklow hammered Waterford to claim top spot and go straight through to the quarter finals.
They are joined there by Limerick, Kildare and Fermanagh who now await the winners of these teams.
New York come into the competition at this stage and they took the place of the lowest ranked third placed team – Leitrim.
