Honorary life membership of the Irish Farmers Association (IFA) was recently bestowed upon well-known Laois farmer and cattle dealer Tommy Wilson.
From Coolroe, near Courtwood, and a long-time member of the Vicarstown branch of IFA, Tommy is known far and wide, primarily through his role as a cattle dealer.
He was joined by members of his family recently in the Killeshin Hotel in Portlaoise where he was honoured by the IFA with life membership.
Known for the early starts and long hours, there’s hardly a mart or a meat factory in the country that Tommy isn’t known and respected.
Regarded for his obliging and accommodating style, and his experience and knowledge, he has been a welcome visitor to many farm yards and farmhouses all over the county for decades.
National IFA president Francie Gorman and Laois IFA chairman Henry Burns made the presentation to Tommy who was joined by his wife Kathleen, daughter Lorraine and sons Barry, Declan, Paddy and Colm at the event. Another son, Brendan, wasn’t able to attend.
He was also joined on the night by members of his local Vicarstown branch.
