The Laois senior hurlers are back in action this afternoon as they face Tipperary in O’Moore Park.

Six days after they lost the Joe McDonagh Cup final against Kildare in Croke Park, this is a daunting task.

Laois are massive outsiders and anything other than a big Tipperary win will be a surprise.

They face a Tipperary side who find themselves in a preliminary quarter-final having finished third in the famed Munster Championship.

Tipp missed out on a place in the provincial final by score difference, having finished level on points with Limerick and Cork.

Liam Cahill’s side beat Clare and Waterford and drew with heavyweights Limerick in the opening round.

There is one change from the Laois team that started the Joe McDonagh Cup final with Ryan Mullaney coming in to replace Jer Quinlan.

The Castletown man is named at wing back with Fiachra C-Fennell selected at midfield and Paddy Purcell moving to wing forward – James Keyes taking Quinlan’s place in the full forward line.

Tipperary have made three changes from the team that beat Waterford last time out, with Joe Caeser, Séamus Kennedy; Alan Tynan coming in for Eoghan Connolly, Conor Stakelum and Jake Morris.
