Seven-year-old Laois girl Ellie Culleton growing her hair and raising much-needed funds for three wonderful charities

A young Laois girl has been growing her hair for three charities as she prepare to have it cut next weekend.

Seven-year-old Ellie Culleton from Mountmellick is a Senior Infants student at Derrylamogue National School.

All funds raised will be shared between Laois Down Syndrome  (LDS), and Laura Lynn, while at the same time creating a wig for a child in need through Laura Lynn’s Locks of Love initiative.

Ellie is a member of LDS and money raised will go towards paying for therapies such as Speech and Language Therapy (SPT) and Occupational Therapy (OT) for branch members just like her.

LDS, a branch of Down Syndrome Ireland, currently offers support to over 60 families of people with Down Syndrome throughout Laois.

Laura Lynn provide a Community of Care that delivers evidence-based, personalised services to children with palliative care needs, complex care needs and complex disabilities, while also providing family support services.

The charity’s Locks for Love initiative allows people to donate their hair to create wigs for children in need.

Ellie has so far raised over €1,500 and there is still time to donate at her GoFundMe page here.

The date for the highly anticipated haircut will be Saturday, June 21.

This date is significant because Down Syndrome is also known as Trisomy 21.
