Abbeyleix is set to host the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan’s 2025 Wild Bee Festival, which will take place on Saturday and Sunday this weekend.

The Wild Bee Festival is an annual event for local community groups, raising awareness of Ireland’s pollinators and how to help them.

The 2025 Festival is coordinated by the National Biodiversity Data Centre, in collaboration with Laois County Council and Abbeyleix Tidy Towns.

Set in the beautiful surroundings of Heritage House, Abbeyleix, the 2025 festival will feature a series of walks and talks led by biodiversity experts and community groups on pollinators and the simple actions we can take to help them.

Talks will include: ‘How Communities can Help Pollinators’, ‘Collecting Wildflower Seeds’, and guided walks of biodiversity areas led by Abbeyleix Tidy Towns.

Kate Chandler, Communities and Engagement Pollinator Officer for the National Biodiversity Data Centre said: “This is the fourth annual Wild Bee Festival, and the first one to be held in Laois.

“Every year the festival is a chance for community groups to come together and learn how to help biodiversity in their towns and villages.

“We’re delighted to be partnering with Laois County Council and Abbeyleix Tidy Towns to hold this year’s festival in Abbeyleix, a town that has done exceptional work for pollinators and biodiversity more widely.

“If you have ever wanted to find out more about wild bees and how to help them in your community, this is the event for you!”

Admission is free. More information, including a full programme of talks, can be found on the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan website.
