Laois athlete chosen to compete for Ireland at European Athletics Team Championships

A Laois athlete has been chosen to represent Ireland at the upcoming European Athletics Team Championships.

Saragh Buggy, who represents St Abban’s, is the holder of 23 national titles.

Since making her senior debut in 2011, she has excelled in triple jump and long jump both indoor and outdoor.

Buggy will compete in the Triple Jump with the competition to take place in Maribor, SIovenia on June 28 and 29.

Meanwhile, St Abban’s athletes had a huge haul of medals last weekend at the Leinster Juvenile Track and Field Championships which were held in Tullamore.

While the conditions weren’t ideal on Saturday the athletes battled for every place across the championships.

The club was represented across almost all events which is a huge testament to the ongoing work being put in by athletes, coaches and parents.

On a weekend where so many won medals its unfair to single out any performance, including those athletes who may have missed out on a medal on this occasion.

It was also a first taste of Leinster competition for some members of the club and this will stand to them in the months and years to come.

Across the weekend the club took home nine gold medals, 14 silver and 11 bronze medals which is a staggering amount of success at Leinster level.

Well done to all involved and they will now look forward to National Championships in a few weeks’ time.
