Calling all bands: Laois woman searching for talent for upcoming fundraiser to support local cancer services

A local woman is putting out the call for bands, singers and musicians who would like to get involved with a new fundraiser for cancer support services in Laois.

Deirdre Connolly from Portarlington is organising a summer fundraiser with a musical twist, with the proceeds going towards the Cuisle Centre in Portlaoise.

Deirdre was diagnosed with breast cancer four years ago and has been using the support services at the Cuisle Centre ever since.

“We all know someone or their families effected by cancer of some sort and benefit from this service,” Deirdre said, adding that the Portlaoise facility “relies on public donations and fundraiser efforts.”

The Cuisle Cancer Support Centre was established in 2004 with a commitment to improving cancer care in Laois and the surrounding region.

The Centre provides emotional support to people affected by cancer from the time of diagnosis, throughout their cancer journey in a confidential, professional, and non-judgmental environment.

Deirdre has organised a night of live music to be held in the Anvil Inn, Portarlington, from 7pm to 9pm on Sunday, August 3.

Now Deirdre is putting the call out to any bands who think they might fit the bill.

The theme is American and Irish Country music and any acts interested in performing can contact Deirdre directly on  085-2875951, or Eoghan Coffey, Manager of The Anvil Inn, on 087-6601669.
