1 – Gardaí make drugs seizure worth €2.2 million after stopping car in Laois

Gardaí have seized drugs worth an estimated €2.2 million and arrested a man following an operation on Friday July 11.

As part of ongoing investigations under Operation Tara targeting drug trafficking networks, Gardaí intercepted a vehicle on the M7 motorway in County Laois.

Laois GAA were forced to confirm this week that the senior hurling championship match between Camross and Portlaoise had in fact finished as a draw.

This followed the confusion at full time as referee Brian Farrell had the score at Portlaoise 2-22 Camross 5-12 – a one point win for Portlaoise.

However, following a review, the score was confirmed at Portlaoise 2-22 Camross 5-13 – a draw.

There are almost 50 fewer pubs operating in Laois than there were in 2005, a decrease of over 30% over the past two decades.

With a total of 48 fewer pubs are operating here than 20 years ago, Laois has seen one of the sharpest declines in the industry of any county across Ireland.
