Athletics: Success for Duffy and Lalor St Abban’s Fit4Life Summer League Finale

The St Abban’s AC Fit4Life Summer League came to a conclusion, with the final stage taking place at the club grounds in Monavea, with Will Duffy and Leah Lawlor coming out on top.

Duffy was first home in a time of 12:57, while Lawler was first lady across the line in 14:27.

The route took athletes from the track around the renowned ‘Turra Triangle’ and back to the track where they finished at the tower, with 171 finishers in total.

There were plenty of PBs (Personal Bests) and improvements throughout the field with athletes sharing their stories over some refreshments afterwards in the clubhouse.

The prizes for the overall Summer League were based on competitors’ best five stages in the overall series.

In the ladies category it was Grace Reilly who claimed the top prize, finishing up on a hugely impressive 9 points.

Bronwyn McDonald finished second with 14 points while Mel Broderick third with 18 points.

They were followed in fourth place by Suzanne Dunne on 22 points and Sarah Fleming in fifth place on 33 points.

In the Men’s event, Kristian Redmond was the clear winner on a score of 7 points.

Ken Archibald finished second with 21 points, while Shane Stynes was third with 23 points.

Patrick Dunne’ 26 points saw him take fourth spot while fifth place John Dillon scored 50 points.

“The growth of the league is very clear from year to year which can be seen from the numbers involved in the series this year,” St Abban’s said.

“Throughout the 2025 Fit4Life Summer League 1020 athletes finished across all six stages.

“There were over 20 clubs represented with many athletes completing a race for their first time. The largest race this year was in Killeen where 190 competitors took part.”
