Stradbally 0-16 Graiguecullen 1-8
Laois JFC Round 2

Stradbally made it two wins from two in their return to the Junior A grade as they defeated Graiguecullen away this evening.

After getting the better of Killeshin in Round 1, Stradbally had five points to spare here.

Both sides lost several of their players from Round 1 when their senior teams met last night.

Graigucuellen started with the wind and had the better of the early exchanges as Ivan Murphy and Conor Harte helped them into a three point lead.

Stradbally slowly made their way into the game though but once they got going, they slotted eight points in a row.

Barry Fitzpatrick, James Devoy and Cormac Deegan drew them level before Ciaran O’Neill gave them the lead.

David Dineen and James Devoy then kicked a brace each to push Stradbally five clear.

Graiguecullen slotted the last two points of the half but Stradbally held a 0-8 to 0-5 lead at half time.

James Devoy increased the lead when play resumed but Stradbally went scoreless for the next 15 minutes and Graiguecullen narrow the deficit to two points.

David Dineen and Ronan Creery regained the initiative for the visitors before a Barry Fitzpatrick two-pointer moved them seven clear.

Graiguecullen refused to give up though and a goal from Scott Lawlor made the closing stages very interesting.

But Stradbally saw out the win with points from Ciaran O’Neill and James Devoy.

They face O’Dempsey’s in their third game while Graigeucullen will be away to The Heath – both scheduled for August 10.
